01 / ROOTED IN SIMPLE KINDNESS
“Seva is selfless service performed without any expectation of recognition, reward, or personal gain. When we serve with love, there is no giver and no receiver—just neighbors caring for neighbors.”
In a world often hurried, transactional, and lonely, Carrboro Seva is an intentional return to the simplest human ground: gathering outdoors around a wood fire, sharing a hot home-cooked meal, listening to acoustic music, and offering one another unconditional presence.
02 / OUR ROOT PRINCIPLES
Inspired by the teachings of Neem Karoli Baba, passed down through generations of selfless servers:
Prem
Unconditional warmth and dignity for every neighbor, without labels, status, or social division.
Seva
Love translated into practical action—alleviating burdens, lending a hand, and holding space.
Prasada / Annadan
Nourishing plant-based meals cooked with devotion and offered freely as hospitality.
Smarana
Anchoring our minds in truth, kindness, and sacred connection to one another.
03 / MAKE YOURSELF AT HOME
Monday, December 7, 2026 • 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Carrboro Town Commons (301 W. Main St).
Howard is bringing a small Solo Stove for clean wood warmth on a fireproof ember mat. We are actively seeking a neighbor to bring or lend a larger portable fire bowl so our whole circle can gather around the flames together! (Clean hardwood only, compliant with Carrboro Town Code Section 14-14).
A larger fire bowl would be lovelyNourishing plant-based dishes (lentil dahl, coconut vegetable curry, kitchari, rice, and herbal chai) cooked at home and brought hot in thermal pots.
We need 2–3 folding camp or banquet tables to hold hot food pots, tea, bowls, and supplies. If you have one, please bring it!
Can you lend a table?Supplies are not pre-provided; please bring a pack of compostable bowls, wooden spoons, or napkins to share—or bring your own reusable camp bowl, mug, and spoon!
100% unplugged strings, flutes, drums, and singing that leaves plenty of room for conversation.
Warm camp chairs, blankets, and layers.
04 / PRESENCE FIRST. ALWAYS.
Presence first. We offer deep listening, quiet companionship, and open hearts—alongside practical physical aid when a neighbor needs a hand.
Posts you add are saved on this device only. To share with the community, email Howard.

Happy to sit by the fire and just listen, hold space, or walk with anyone carrying grief, stress, or feeling isolated.
Going through a tough transition and would love to just sit with kind folks by the fire without having to explain myself.
Bringing a 6ft folding banquet table for the food line and 50 compostable bowls/spoons.
In need of an adult cold-weather sleeping bag or clean wool blanket for freezing nights.
Bringing bike repair tools to the Commons to patch tubes, adjust brakes, and lube chains on site.
Bringing clean, new heavy socks and warm knit winter caps to share.
Sometimes the kindest thing you can offer is your company.
05 / MANY HANDS. ONE COMMUNITY.
Bring what you can.
Your presence is already a gift.
There are many ways to help make the circle whole. Find a role that feels like you, or simply come and share the evening.
